Aldershot Lido gets ready for the summer season

Aldershot Lido is preparing to open its doors for the summer season and just in time for the May half-term holiday on Saturday 26 May.

Visitors to the lido on its opening day, can also enjoy an afternoon of live music organised by the Friends of Aldershot Lido.

There will be live music by the pool from midday with performance by Daniel Hudson, Yacht Club Four and Elaine Martin and Fleet Phoenix Young Musicians.

The Blackwater Valley Canoe Club will also be running taster kayaking and canoeing sessions.

The Lido in Guildford Road, Aldershot will be open during the May bank holiday weekend and half-term week until Sunday 3 June.

It will then be open every weekend in June, until 1 July when it will open daily until Sunday 2 September.

Owned by Rushmoor Borough Council and run by Places for People Leisure, the large open-air pool offers three colourful water slides, a toddlers’ paddling pool and large sandpit plus a picnic area, swim shop and basketball area.

There are a number of special offers available this season including half price entry every day after 3pm as well as season tickets and 20% off for military personnel.

Day tickets to the lido are just £7.60 for adults and £4.50 for juniors and senior citizens, under threes always go free.  Family day tickets start from £12.40.

Councillor Maurice Sheehan, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Youth at Rushmoor Borough Council said:  “We’ve already had some fantastic weather to start off May and it looks like this will continue into the half-term holiday.  The lido is a fantastic place to enjoy the sun, cool off, swim or just relax in the grounds with friends and family.”

The lido’s popular film evenings are back this season with The Greatest Showman on Thursday 12 and Friday 13 July (Friday night is already sold out) and Pretty Woman on 31 August.  Tickets are available from www.silentsummerscreenings.com.

Early morning lane swimming will also be back on Sundays from 8am to 9am (3 June to 2 September) and Wednesdays from 7am (4 July to 20 August).

The Friends of Aldershot Lido are also organising a schools picture competition and local children are being invited to create a colourful A4 picture, which represents summer at the lido.
