Historic sites in Aldershot and Farnborough

Aldershot and Farnborough have a wealth of historic sites.
With their military, Victorian and aviation heritages, Aldershot and Farnborough offer a wide selection of historic sites, including the following:

Duke of Wellington Statue

The impressive 40-ton statue of the 1st Duke of Wellington, victor at the Battle of Waterloo, was originally erected at Hyde Park Corner, London. It was moved to its current site in Aldershot in1885.

Aldershot observatory

The telescope and observatory building were a gift from aviation pioneer Patrick Young Alexander to the British Army in 1906.

St Michael's Abbey

St Michael's Abbey was founded in 1881 by the Empress EugĂ©nie as a mausoleum for her late husband Napoleon III, Emperor of France. It is now a contemplative monastery of monks of the Benedictine order.

Heroes' Shrine, Manor Park

The Heroes' Shrine is Aldershot's national memorial to those people who died in the civilian bombing during the Battle of Britain. It contains masonry from bombed cities including Coventry cathedral.

IQ Farnborough - former Royal Aircraft Establishment wind tunnels and hanger

Prince Consort's Library

The military specialist Library of the Army Library and Information Service. It specialises in providing information on current military topics and international politics in support of operations, intelligence, training and education by the British Armed Forces. This is achieved by the extensive use of online information, military articles and a wide range of military books. The Prince Consort's Library also regularly host talks by military authors.
